These beautiful islands are an upmarket haven for visitors, who fly here to enjoy their unspoilt beauty. The exclusive
paradise island of Bazaruto, the largest of Mozambique’s islands, is a tranquil haven famous for its natural beauty. It’s an
angler’s paradise, and diving and snorkelling are very popular, too. Birdlife is abundant, with at least 240 species on the
island. Wonderful beaches converge at the northern tip of the island, forming a narrow sand split stretching several
kilometres out to sea.
Indigo Bay is a deluxe lodge situated on the south-western side of the island. This is the ultimate escape. Guests are
accommodated in wood and reed chalets with en suite shower and balconies overlooking the beach and the sea.
Benguerra Island, south of Bazaruto, is small, just 5km in width. It’s renowned for excellent fishing and is completely
unspoilt, with no vehicles or roads - just crystal white beaches and magnificent coral gardens.
On the island is the delightful 4 Star Marlin Lodge, an elevated structure on stilts with wooden decks, reed walls and
thatched roofs. Wooden walkways connect 20 chalets to the Lodge’s main reception area. This upmarket retreat is an ideal
destination for watersports enthusiasts and divers. It offers guests the ultimate private island experience.
Also on Benguerra Island is Benguerra Lodge, an island paradise with a rich East African/Arabic feel offering only 22
private en suite chalets all set a moment’s walk from the gorgeous silver-white beach of Benguerra Bay. At the lodge,
guests can choose to do as much, or as little, as they like, from snorkelling and scuba diving to diving, deep sea and
saltwater fly fishing and sailing in a traditional dhow.
Pemba city is located on the large bay of the same name. Its beautiful old town contains several traditional markets and it
also boasts some magnificent beaches, including Praia do Wimbe, a palm-lined beach with white sand and clear blue
waters. From Pemba one can visit Ibo Island, part of the idyllic Quirimbas Archipelago - it was once an important
Portuguese trading post.
Pemba Island Resort, is located just 8km from Pemba on one of the largest inland bays in the world and is set on the
beach. It offers exclusivity and tranquillity in a magical island setting. Guests stay in luxury sea-facing rooms, enjoy fresh
seafood and participate in a variety of watersports and activities.
Matemo Island is a private island just 100km from Pemba, just 8km by 3km in size. The focus of the exclusive Matemo
Island Resort is leisure, fishing and diving. Guests enjoy a selection of watersports as well as luxury accommodation on
the beach, dhow cruises, picnics on surrounding islands and cultural tours to surrounding islands. The small, quaint island
of Medjumbe is 20 minutes by light aircraft from Pemba.
Guests will enjoy sunset cruises, cultural tours of the islands and dhow cruises. The nearby island of Quisinga is an ideal
choice for a romantic excursion. Set in one of the most picturesque areas in Mozambique 485km from Maputo is Barra
Lodge. The resort offers a selection of accommodation, a restaurant, tropical beach bar and loads of activities, including
excellent scuba diving and snorkelling. Other facilities at the Lodge include beach volleyball, dhow cruises, exploring the
nearby saltwater mangrove by boat or on foot, and birdwatching. Guests also enjoy trips to the nearby historical town of
Inhambane.
