Since 1990, Mozambique has been developing as a tourist mecca. Themost popular areas for holiday makers are the South Coast, particularlyMaputo, (formerly known as Lourenco Marques). The best time to visit isthe months of June to August, when both rainfall and temperatures areat their lowest. Later in the dry season, in late August and September,the temperatures start to climb, but this is the best time to see big game.

Birdwatching is popular in Mozambique, especially in the southern part of the country. The Maputo Elephant reserve, located on the ocean, is a good spot for birdspotting.
